MOSH / MOAH

Removing process contaminants for healthy edible oils and fats

MOSH / MOAH: These two abbreviations stand for two different chemical compound groups found in mineral oil. MOSH are saturated petroleum hydrocarbons such as alkanes and naphthenes. MOAH are the unsaturated aromatic (ring) hydrocarbons and are considered genotoxic with 3 or more rings (European Food Safety Authority / EFSA 2019 assessment). They are introduced through diverse channels via migration or via additives and adjuvants throughout the supply chain (from cultivation, harvest, storage, transport to processing and packaging).

Plasticisers (phthalates)
87% of plasticisers produced are found in plastic products. Beside films and cables, they are also found in many other everyday products. Even deodorants, perfumes, paints and adhesives contain plasticisers, although you would not expect them to be there.

Your great advantage as a customer

You get safe, pure and healthy edible oils and fats through gentle refining. In addition to selected raw materials with extensive analyses before the oils and fats are delivered, Nutriswiss has further developed the process technology to be able to offer safe products of high purity.

Significant reduction of MOSH / MOAH

To eliminate MOAH, we don't use processes that require a lot of time and temperature. Instead, our experts focus on a physical treatment by means of modern distillation technology, followed by a mild deodorisation. In this way, the formation of process contaminants are removed, while MOSH / MOAH, pesticides, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and plasticisers such as DEHP are significantly reduced.
