Gentle Refining Processes

11.06.2025

Gentle refining processes play a crucial role in controlling contamination from pesticides, MOH, and other harmful substances while improving oil stability. It was discovered over 20 years ago that heating edible oils above 225°C produces carcinogenic compounds such as 3-MCPD. Since then, the industry has focused on developing methods to prevent their formation. Mild refining alone offers limited contaminant reduction but positively impacts oil stability. However, when combined with short path distillation (SPD), this approach significantly reduces contaminants like 3-MCPD, pesticides, MOSH/MOAH, and DEHP while maintaining high stability and purity without introducing further process contamination.

Our continuous SPD process, operating under vacuum, effectively enhances product safety and quality, even in oils that have already undergone refining. This combination is especially beneficial for sensitive applications such as infant nutrition. Nonetheless, high-quality raw materials remain essential, as heavily contaminated oils cannot be fully improved by these processes.
